After the success of their T20 World Cup match at the MCG, India, and Pakistan (IND vs PAK) are reportedly in talks to face off again in Australia. In fact, in a report, there was a drug to be discussed between India and Pakistan to conduct an MCG test match. But the BCCI has vehemently denied this claim and ruled out any series and matches with Pakistan other than an ICC event and the Asia Cup.
Indeed, Australian news outlet SEN reported that India and Pakistan are in talks for a possible Test match at the MCG. If it were successful, Australia is also interested in hosting a tri-nation series involving India and Pakistan, the report said.
Former Australian all-rounder Simon O’Donnell told SEN, “Their T20 World Cup struggle was amazing. It is the same match that has taken the tournament to great heights so far, people keep mentioning it. More than 90,000 people had come to see him at a neutral site. It was an extraordinary sight.”
The India vs Pakistan match at the MCG cost $7 million. The fans enjoyed the thrilling match as the rain remained away. In short, fans from India and Pakistan took to the streets of Melbourne for a day. It also created great enthusiasm among Australians.
He said, “It was unprecedented, I can say that it will be discussed or there is a discussion to play a Test match here. There is also a possibility of a triangular one-day series between India, Pakistan, and Australia or a Test match between India and Pakistan. It is already being discussed”.
However, a BCCI official said, there is no discussion with Cricket Australia or the Pakistan Cricket Board on a Test match or tri-series.
A BCCI official told, “No, there is no discussion going on at the moment. Rameez Raza proposed the tri-nation series during the ACC meeting in Dubai. But we did not go ahead as the government was not agreeable to such a plan. At present, unless political relations improve, a Test or a tri-series is out of the equation except for an ICC event”.
India last played a Test match against Pakistan in 2007 in Bangalore. Since then the two sides have not met in Test cricket. Despite the ICC implementing the ICC Test Championship, the two Asian powerhouses have not played a single Test match against each other.
